Interactive Content for an Exhibition Booth in Singapore
Someone has told you the stand needs to be interactive. Nobody has told you what that means, what drives the cost, or what happens if it fails in front of a client on day one.
Here is the honest version, from a team that builds the stand and makes the content that goes in it.
Start here
Start with the conversation, not the screen.
One question decides everything else: what do you want a visitor to understand, and what do you want them to do next?
If the answer is to book a demo, the interactive element is a hook that hands them to a salesperson. If it is to understand how something works because the product is invisible, it is an explainer and has to carry weight on its own. Different builds, different costs. Picking the format before you have answered this is how budgets get spent on something nobody uses.

The options
The options, from simplest to most involved.
Touchscreen kiosk or product explorer
A screen with a menu a visitor taps through. Cheapest, most reliable.
Good at: catalogues, spec comparison, letting a visitor self-serve while your team is busy.
Bad at: stopping anybody. Almost no pull from three metres away. A second-stage tool, for people already on the stand.
Interactive wall or large-format touch surface
The same idea at architectural scale, often with several people at once.
Good at: presence, and group demonstrations where a salesperson drives.
Bad at: detail. Small text at arm's length on a two-metre wall is uncomfortable, and laptop content looks wrong scaled up. The format most often ruined by reused material.
Sensor and gesture triggers
Pick up an object and the screen responds; walk past and something changes.
Good at: pulling people in from the aisle. The one that earns attention.
Bad at: precision. Crowds, lighting and people standing where the sensor expects nobody all break it. Needs a fallback, and testing in the hall rather than in a studio.
AR on the visitor's own phone
The visitor scans a code and sees a machine, a building or a data layer through their camera.
Good at: showing what is too large, too expensive or too confidential to bring to the hall, and it stays on their phone afterwards.
Bad at: almost everything about a show floor. It depends on their phone, their patience and the venue network. A bonus layer, never the centrepiece.
Transparent and unusual displays
Transparent LED or LCD, holographic enclosures, curved and edge-lit units — an object behind glass with graphics running over it.
Good at: stopping traffic. Nothing else here is as good at making someone break their walk.
Bad at: forgiveness. Specialist, usually imported, and rarely a spare sitting in Singapore if one fails.
Real-time data visualisation
Live feeds — network activity, sensor data, operations — on screen.
Good at: technical credibility in cybersecurity and mobility. It shows the product working rather than describing it.
Bad at: surviving a broken feed. Keep a recorded fallback that runs locally and looks identical.
Game or simulation
A short competitive or role-play interaction, often with a leaderboard and a prize.
Good at: dwell time, data capture, and giving a nervous sales team a reason to start talking.
Bad at: qualifying. It attracts everybody, including people who only want the prize. With a small, senior audience it makes the stand busy in the wrong way.
The honest part
When not to do interactive at all.
Some stands are better off without any of it.
Skip it if your product explains itself in one sentence and one image. Skip it if the show is small and senior and your visitors have come to meet named people, where a good table, a quiet corner and a printed one-pager will beat a screen. Skip it if the content will not be ready in time, because a half-finished interactive is worse than none. Skip it if nobody on the stand has been briefed to run it.
And skip it if the budget only stretches to the hardware. A screen with weak content on it is an expensive way to look ordinary. If money is tight, put it into the content and show it on something simpler.
We would rather say that now than build something that sits idle for three days.
Cost drivers
What actually drives the cost.
Not the screen. The screen is the part everyone quotes and the part that varies least. We do not publish a price range, because a number without your brief is a guess that misleads you. These are the things that move it.
Content creation
Usually the largest line and the most underestimated. Writing, structuring, designing the screens, producing animation or 3D, then rewriting after the third round of stakeholder comments. Technical subjects cost more, because the material has to be understood before it can be simplified. This is the content development side of the team.
Software
One question decides it: adapt something that already exists, or build bespoke? Adapting is cheaper and far more predictable. Bespoke earns its place when the interaction itself is the product — a configurator, a simulation, a live data tool.
Hardware
Rent or buy. Rental suits a single show. Purchase makes sense when the unit will travel, or when rental stock for that format does not exist here.
Installation
Mounting, cable routes, power, and making the technology disappear into the build rather than sit on it. Cheap when planned with the stand, expensive when added afterwards.
On-site support
Someone technical at build and on day one. The line clients cut first and regret most.
Reuse
Content built as one fixed piece dies with the show. Built in modules, with copy, assets and layout kept separate, it can be re-cut for the next stand, the sales team's laptops, an interactive heritage wall or an innovation hub or experience centre. Ask for it at the brief stage. It costs a little more once and saves every time after.
Failure modes
What goes wrong, and how.
- Desktop content on a touch wall. Slides or a website scaled up. The type is wrong, the hierarchy is wrong, and the visitor has to read where they should be reacting. The most common failure by far.
- Nobody running it. An unattended interactive on a busy stand is furniture. Someone has to be able to walk a visitor into it in one sentence.
- Interaction that takes too long. A passer-by decides in seconds whether to stop, and someone who stops gives you a minute or two before their eyes go back to the aisle. Make the first move land inside that window and let depth be optional.
- Venue wi-fi. It fails, at the worst moment, in every country. Anything that must not break runs locally.
- Hardware arriving late or broken. Freight, customs, a cracked panel, a controller that will not boot. There is no version of the schedule where that is fine, which is why we test before it ships.
One team
Why the content and the build should sit in one team.
In 2019 we ran transparent screens at two Singapore shows before anybody local was using them — IoT Asia in March for a Japanese enterprise client, and Singapore FinTech Festival in November for a fintech client.
Nobody here had run these units. There was no local pool of experience to ask and no spare sitting in a warehouse down the road. So the team flew to the supplier's country, tested the units in person, and took the overnight flight back to be on site for the install.
That is not a story about screens. It is what happens when the content, the build and the technology are one team's responsibility. Split across three vendors, that trip does not happen. Nobody owns the risk, and the first anyone hears of a problem is when a crate is opened in the hall.

We start with what the stand has to achieve and who walks past it, then pick the format, often a simpler one than the brief assumed. We write the content, design it, build it into the stand, test it before it ships, and put someone technical on site for install. What drives the cost of interactive content for an exhibition booth in Singapore?
It depends far less on the screen than most people expect. The largest variables are how much content has to be created from scratch, whether the software is adapted from something existing or built bespoke, whether hardware is rented or bought, and whether on-site technical support is included. A simple touchscreen explorer and a bespoke simulation are different projects by an order of magnitude.
What is the simplest interactive option that still works?
A well-written touchscreen product explorer, staffed by someone who can start the conversation. It will not stop traffic on its own, so pair it with something visual at the aisle edge. It is reliable, it is quick to produce, and the content can usually be reused after the show.
Is AR worth doing on a trade show stand?
Sometimes, as a supporting layer. AR on a visitor's own phone is excellent for showing something too large or too confidential to bring into the hall, and the visitor keeps it afterwards. It is a poor centrepiece, because it depends on their device, their patience and the venue network, all three of which fail more often at a show than anywhere else.
How long will a visitor actually spend with an interactive display?
Less than the brief usually assumes. Someone walking past decides in seconds whether to stop, and someone who has stopped gives you a minute or two before the aisle pulls them back. Design the first interaction to deliver something inside that window and make the depth optional.
When should we not use interactive content at all?
When the product explains itself in one image, when the audience is small and senior and has come to meet specific people, when the content will not be finished in time, or when the budget only covers hardware. In those cases a good conversation and a well-made printed piece do more. We will say so.
Can the content be reused at the next show?
Yes, if it is built for it. Content made as one fixed piece dies with the show. Content built in modules, with copy, assets and layout kept separate, can be re-cut for the next stand, a sales laptop, a reception screen or an experience centre. Ask for it in the brief, because retrofitting it later costs more.
What breaks most often on show day?
Hardware that arrives late or damaged, venue wi-fi, and content that was designed for a desktop screen and does not read on a large touch surface. The first is managed by testing before the units ship and having someone technical on site at install. The second is managed by running everything locally. The third is only fixed by designing the content for the surface it will live on.
